Needle Felt a black bear!

Wednesday 7PM-9PM

I love creating art. One of my skills is needle felting. You may already have the skill but if not, I’ve been fortunate to teach needle felting to many people and would love to teach you too. Maybe you will enjoy the skill as much as I do. Needle felting can be very relaxing after a stressful day. I also enjoy, when people share pieces, they have later created on their own.

We will be using a single needle method. Using a barbed felting needle, you will work the wool fibers, felting them together until the sculpture is firm and can stand on its own. It’s amazing how fast a sculpture comes together. It’s also fun to see that each bear will be unique to the person creating it.

Everyone will have a barbed felting needle, block of foam, glass beads for eyes and local wool from my friend’s farm, FiberDreams. She has a flock of sheep and a micro mill to process the wool. I’m going over to help process the wool for the bears in a few weeks. I’m hoping she will have a natural fleece that is dark enough. If not, we will add the step of hand dying it before running it through the picker and carder.

I thought a black bear would be appropriate since we are staying in bear country. If you’re like me you’re hoping to see one or two. From a distance of course.

Our Chapter has been working hard on FreakOut and we’re looking forward to all of you joining us in the White Mountains. Every time Luis and I go to FreakOut we meet new friends. I’ve had the same experience with felting, so I’m thinking, putting the two together will be a fun evening.

If you are interested in learning to needle felt, meeting up with friends and making new friends email me, at chewychewy@comcast.net and I’ll add you to the list. There is no cost to participate, we just need to know how many people to plan for. Needle felting a black bear has also been added to the registration form and you can sign up there as well.

Best Wishes,

Lisa
